My son is 2 1/2 and has never climbed out of his crib yet. We just recently bought him a toddler bed but have not put it together yet. I was wondering if he is ready for it? And how do you know when?
i would leave him as long as possible – if he does not climb out of his cot you are lucky – as soon as you move him he may start climbing out of bed whenever he wakes.
I moved my daughter when she was nearly 3 – and only because she was getting too big for her cot. I then told her to call for me in the morning like she usually did and luckily she did not climb out of the bed – i don’t think she realised that was an option open to her.
Moving a child to a bed is not a sign they are advanced or clever or mature – they only really need to move when their cot is too small – children sleep well in cots because they feel secure.
If he still has a nap you could try putting him in the bed for his nap or at least do story time in the bed so he slowly gets used to it – don’t force him into it otherwise you coudl upset his happy sleeping pattern

We always waited until the baby was at least trying to climb out of the crib – well, when they were actually making it out of the crib. That way, we knew we’d delayed the falling out of bed as long as we could.

At 2.5 years, he should be ready for a toddler bed. Just make sure that you have the side guards so that he doesn’t fall off the bed (even though toddler beds are pretty close to the ground anyways).

it’s really your preference. eventually your kid will learn to crawl out of the crib, and then it’s definitely time to switch because you don’t want him to fall out and get hurt in the process. I’d say he’s old enough. My son has been sleeping in a regular bed (not a toddler bed) since he was about 22 months.

yes hes ready. cribs are for babies. he should have his own bed, be off of the bottle and the diapers by the time hes 3.

well i put my son in a toddler bed at the age of two as he was always trying to climb out of the crib, Try and put one side against the wall and on the other side lay pillows down incase of a fall, as your child is not used to a bed there will be plenty of these, so be prepared but over time he will get used to this as we all did, hope this helped !

You need to let your child sleep in a bed when he can walk and has a less fragile head. What would happen when your child fell out of bed? Would he get up and laugh about it or cry and cry and sleep in a crib again? Every child needs to change things like this at a different age.

You can change him over now. he might seem unhappy at first but you can excite him about it liek buying bedding he wants like superman and such.

Actually its really up to the parents. With my first we moved her at 2 to make way for her sisters arrival. With my second we waited until almost 2.5 and then moved her. I hear 2.5 is a good age. Good Luck!

If he’s walking well then he’ll be fine and will love the new freedom. But keep in mind that he might get up before you in the morning so put anything dangerous out of reach.

I started my son in his toddler bed at 2, it might have been early, but I figured it would take some time to get him used to it which it did. Our daughter is 2 1/2 and we are going to get her a bed in the next week or so. My son did not climb out of his crib, but she has started to.
I don’t think there is a set age, but around 2ish seems right.

when they are able to pull themselfs up if there is a chance they can clim out its time its better if the fall out of bed at floor level insted of falling out from the top of the crib let him take a nap on the couch and watch him if your worried he will fall out of bed but note he will fall out a few times they all do

I put my son in a bed shortly after his 1st birthday. if they keep climbing out just keep putting them back in. we put a tv on to keep my son entertained while he was in bed.

It’s really up to you. My dd has been in her bed for a while but will wake up many times a night to get in my bed. If he seems ok then leave him. One question to think about is: Has he learned how to use the potty? Because you want him to be able to go the the potty if he needs to but if he hasn’t learned how to I say leave him in the crib a little longer.

I moved my son out of his bed when he turned 2. He started tossing and turning a lot in his crib and I could tell he wanted more room. We got his a race care bed that has the twin mattress and he loves it. I kept his crib in his room with his new bed so he knew i wasn’t forcing him out. His race care bed has high sides so it makes me feel safe and he loves it. He wakes up in the morning and gets out of bed and plays in his room it’s so sweet.

you cant potty train in a crib it’s dangerous and if a kid doesnt climb out of the crib it will be harder to night train
go ahead and swap him but prepare him for it first by telling him what your doing for a couple days before you do it
