How can I tell if my daughter is ready for a toddler bed?

My 13 month old daughter currently sleeps in a crib, but she always wants to sleep in my bed when I lay her down for a nap.She doesn’t want to when I am there, but just when she is going to sleep on her own.Whenever I go to stores and there are toddler beds, she always runs and climbs on them to lay down.Is it worth a shot or is it still way too early?

I think it’s too early. She might do well in a toddler bed, or she might get up all night. There’s no rush, she’s still very young.

My daughter went into a toddler bed at 2.5 years, she got up and down all night for several weeks. She’s a stubborn little thing though.

Go ahead and get her one…it looks like she is trying to let you know that she is a "big girl" and ready for a "big girl bed"

I think it depends on how well the child sleeps in her crib… If she’s sleeping well in her crib and not climbing out of it, etc. then I would leave her in there for at least a while longer. My daugter was 2 yrs and 3 months when we converted her crib to a toddler bed…. She loved her crib and slept very well in it, but when she got big enough to hang over the sides, we decided it was time….

Definately! If she is running around, sleeping in your bed and realizes the difference, it is time for an upgrade. Toddler beds aren’t far off of the ground so just fold a thick blanket in half and place it on the floor in case she does fall off during the night.

And ask her if she wants one. She should be able to tell you ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Make sure she is excited to get it before you do or she may not like the change since a crib is all she knows.

If you leave her in the crib, however, it is not a big deal. Maybe you don’t have the money to buy a bed right now or just don’t want to deal with it. Some cribs can even transform into toddler beds, which is nice.

    Either way, she’ll be fine.

At 13 months, my mother had me in a full bed (what some people call a double) since we got it for free, and we had to use our crib for my baby sister, who was just born. I never had any problems in that giant’s bed, so I’m sure your daughter will be fine!

Ask these questions..does she still flip flop around alot in her crib when sleeping?…does she ever crawl out?…does she understand you enough to comprehend that it’s not time to get up and play, it’s time to sleep. Think on it..would she stay in bed?? In her room where the toys are tempting?? Go from there you know her best!
