im getting a new bed, and i have a twin matress, can i still use the twin matress on the daybed or not?
You can either use the twin mattress/box springs or buy the daybed link springs and use just the mattress top and not the boxspring. Personally, if you can use the whole mattress set on it, I would do that. The link spring systems are not that comfortable. And, a bunkie board is even worse (that is no springs and just the mattress on a piece of wood).
What kind of matress does a daybed need?

yes you can use a regular twin mattress

You should be able to use a regular twin bed size. Some however take an extended length…the dorm length mattress. If you have the heavy wrought iron or porcelain (Victorian) frame, they usually take the longer mattress. Good luck!
