What is a good mixture of bedding that my gerbils could make a tunnel system in?

Do i have to use a mixture or can i use a single bedding. I’ve heard of using aspen shavings and hay. Where would i get hay from?

gerbils like hay to munch on, so i would say aspen because they won’t eat it all before they make a tunnel, you can buy hay or aspen shaving at any local pet store

    Any pet store should carry bedding for your gerbil. I used cedar chips, as they eliminated the odor problem of caged animals.

    Gerbils are best with aspen or recycled paper bedding. Cedar is the worst bedding to use! and most pine bedding will still cause respiratory problems. Timothy hay from the pet shop or internet will do just fine, if you want to use that along with the aspen or recycled paper bedding.

    go to your local pet store. they will definatley have some type of bedding. try hamster bedding if thats all they have. also shredded paper is perfect too.
