They recommended washing everything once a week, but the crucial thing to control mites was to use an allergenic pillowcase to protect your pillow from infestation, and to replace your pillow once a year. You should also have a protective liner to make your mattress impermeable to the little buggers. I was so grossed out by it all I ran out and bought new pillows for the family and liners for all the beds. That will help, keep your new mattress clean and if any spills, accidents etc.. happen your mattress will be spared... You just wash the mattress cover... If you are worried of dust mites you can get a waterproof mattress cover that actually encloses the mattress so there's a barrier between you and the mattress... I like to vacuum my mattress once a week when I change my bedding.. . I launder my comforter/duvet/ down comforter about once a month.. I usually wash my duvet with my bed linens... If you have bright colored bedding use a gentle detergent/cold water wash/rinse.. That will help keep it looking nice... I wash my bedding weekly and every night I spray febreeze antimicrobrial spray on my bedding in the morning. It helps to get rid of the dust mites.
